Nodstop Special Needs | Head Support Medical Device

The first thing I sensed was a releasing in my shoulders. I hadn’t realized how much effort I was putting into keeping my head and neck straight.

What is Nodstop Special Needs?

It is a medical device designed for those with weak neck and shoulder muscles, and is used to keep the head, neck and shoulders in an upright position; and it is an aid for caregivers, acting as a helping hand in holding up a clients head while being fed (fits a Geri/feeding chair), allowing the caregiver to have both hands free.

Nodstop is a unique, patented headband designed to be used by clients and caregivers to provide safe, comfortable head support to those who require assistance in holding their head up while in a seated or semi-reclined position. It is made of an elastic band covered with soft fleece and designed to fit around the back of the chair and is completely washable. The headband is firmly attached via hook-and-loop to a cap to prevent it from slipping down beyond the forehead and to provide a more secure, comfortable attachment to the wearer while allowing easy, quick removal when no longer required.

Nodstop Special Needs comes in two lengths – one designed for wheelchairs (Nodstop Special Needs Weelchair) and one for chairs approximately 21 inches wide and 6 inches deep (Nodstop Special Needs Standard) such as “geri” chairs. For much larger chairs such as a full size recliner there is an extension available to help make it fit more effectively. Each NodstopSN comes with two rubber sleeves that can be adjusted to fit along the sides of vinyl or leather chairs to help prevent slippage.

 Head up is important!

The natural alignment of the head is for it to be held in an upright position.  Everything in the body has its proper place so that all parts can function optimally.  When the head is down, such as the case with those who have weak  neck and shoulder muscles, it can result in problems with:

  • Breathing
  • Circulation
  • Swallowing
  • Digestion
  • Neurological functioning
  • Vision
  • Posture and balance
  • Mental well-being
  • Sensory function

Nodstop is designed specifically for:

  • elderly
  • ALS
  • MS
  • Alzheimers
  • Cerebral palsy
  • paralysis
  • any muscular degenerative disease
  • Emphysema
  • COPD
  • asthma
  • sinus
  • Parkinsons
  • swallowing, breathing, digestion issues
  • Crohn’s disease
  • feeding tube patients

“The Nodstop allows our daughter, Lauren (who has cerebral palsy), to ride comfortably during car trips and stroller rides. Because of her low muscle tone, Lauren has difficulty keeping her head up in car seats and strollers. We’re grateful for the Nodstop’s support which allows Lauren to relax, look out the
window and enjoy the ride!”
